As summer continues, I've been staying busy at events around our community getting feedback and sharing with constituents the work we accomplished during the 2014 session. Here's an update from the last week:
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Volunteer Appreciation Event
Thanks to those of you who came out last Sunday, June 8th, to the Apple Valley and Rosemount Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Volunteer Appreciation Gala. Apple Valley Mayor Mary Hammond Roland and Rosemount Mayor Bill Droste both were in attendance and spoke to the importance of this organization. The event honored the volunteers, organizations, and businesses who help make Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, and all the work they do for our military members and their families, possible.

Opal Services Visit
This past Wednesday, June 11th, I toured Opal Services Group Home in Rosemount. I spoke with residents and staff about the 5% Campaign, which provided a rate increase to those who care for some of our most vulnerable citizens. They underscored the importance of this legislation, which will improve staff stability, which will increase quality and consistency of care in group homes like Opal Services. We also spoke about the day-to-day life at the home, and the various jobs that the residents work at.

Stop the Cycle Motorcylce Ride
The Lewis House is hosting the first annual Stop the Cycle Motorcycle Ride benefit on Saturday, June 14th, at the Rosemount VFW. Proceeds will benefit the Lewis House, a housing shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Please consider supporting this organization.

Town Hall Meeting
My town hall meeting with Rep. Tara Mack in Apple Valley is coming up this Monday, June 16th. I hope you'll mark your calendars and come with any questions or comments you have about the 2014 session.

Flag Day
Flag Day is Saturday, June 14th, and commemorates the day in 1777 when Congress adopted the stars and stripes as the official flag of the United States. Our flag is a symbol of the freedom and liberty our country stands for around the world, and coming off our recent Memorial Day and D-Day anniversary celebrations, it is so important to remember the significance of our flag, and all that it represents.
Father's Day
This Sunday is Father's Day, an opportunity for everyone to celebrate and remember the fathers and grandfathers who have impacted our lives. I look forward to celebrating with my dad, Daniel, who first inspired me to get involved in politics and interested in public service at age 12. I truly wouldn't be where I am today without my dad. Happy Father's Day to all of the amazing dads out there!
