News from Representative Wills 05-29-2014

Thursday, May 29, 2014
Dear Friends,

Thanks to those of you who took time out of your busy lives to attend my town hall meeting yesterday evening in Rosemount. I appreciated the thoughtful questions and the opportunity to give an update on our work during the 2014 session. If you were unable to attend, and have any questions or comments you'd like to pass along, please feel free to call my office at 651-296-4306, or email me directly at rep.anna.wills@house.mn.

I will be holding another town hall meeting in Apple Valley with Rep. Tara Mack, and will be sure to send along details as soon as they are finalized.

Here are some other updates from the past week:

Memorial Day Services
Memorial Day was this past Monday, May 26th. I attended both of the ceremonies in our community in Apple Valley and Rosemount. The weather was beautiful, and the ceremonies were a touching tribute to those that lost their lives in service to our country. Thanks to all those who came out to remember our fallen servicemen and women, and to those who made the Memorial Day services possible.

District 196 ABE Graduation Ceremony
On Tuesday, May 27 District 196 held their annual graduation celebration for graduates of their Adult Basic Education program. The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program helps adults improve basic skills like reading, writing, and learning English so adults can continue their education, earn their high school diploma, or improve their job prospects. Congratulations to all of the graduates of the program for their hard work. You can find more information about the District 196 ABE program by clicking here.

Dakota County Communications Tour
Have you ever wondered what happens when you call 911? On Wednesday I had the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Dakota County Communications Facility and see the room where 911 calls are fielded each and every day. I got to listen to a couple of calls come in, and see the process that occurs as the 911 operators dispatch police or fire response during an emergency. The facility is located right here in Rosemount, and serves as the dispatch center for all of the communities in Dakota County. It was great to meet the employees who are everyday heroes saving lives around our community.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Volunteer Appreciation Event
On Sunday, June 8th from 4PM-7PM, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon will be hosting a volunteer appreciation event at Bogart's, located at 14917 Garrett Ave in Apple Valley.

This event is a chance to recognize all the volunteers who make Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, and everything they do for our military members and their families, possible.

RSVPs are requested, please contact Paul Chellsen via email at chellsen@charter.net or by phone at 612-597-9809 by Monday, June 02.

Enjoy the great weather, and have a wonderful weekend,
Anna Wills
State Representative, District 57B
