Thank You for the Honor and Privilege of Being your State Representative

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Dear Neighbors,

With a humble heart, I would like to thank you all for allowing me to serve as your state representative for the past four years. It has been an honor, a privilege, and an experience that my family and I will never forget.

While I will miss serving you in St. Paul, I look forward to new opportunities and know that whoever replaces me will carry on a strong tradition of service on behalf of Rice, Scott and Le Sueur County residents.

Since being elected in 2010, it has been my goal to fight for our common values in St. Paul.  Serving as the GOP Lead on the House Education Finance Committee and as a father to five wonderful children, my top priority has been to ensure that every kid in Minnesota has access to a world class education.

From advocating on behalf of strong graduation standards to pushing for flexible policies to keep the best teachers in our classrooms, I believe a strong education system is the key to providing the kinds of opportunities that allow our kids to pursue their highest aspirations.

Serving as an Assistant Minority Leader has also allowed me to influence and shape policies that puts Minnesota on a path of economic prosperity. I truly believe in a system where government does not burden its citizens with excessive taxation and overregulation.

Your support and input has helped guide me in St. Paul as I considered legislation on a wide variety of topics. While many of you may have a strong distaste for politics, you were the folks who inspired me to work toward making our beloved state a place we can all be proud to call home.

The next step in my life will take me in a dramatically different direction than what I expected even a few months ago, but I look forward to dedicating myself and putting my words in to action in a new way. I will be helping start a new Catholic high school that provides college preparatory classes for underprivileged children.  This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I simply could not pass up.

As I reflect on my time at the Minnesota State Legislature, the current legislative session is winding down. We still have final negotiations on a few major bills that will be ironed out in the next several days. I am amazed at how fast the time went, but am so thankful to have had an opportunity to serve you.

For your support, for your input, and for your guidance, I am eternally grateful. I appreciate each and every one of you in District 20A. You are the reason I chose to serve and for that—I thank you.

With Warmest Regards,

Kelby
