Bonding and Cash Bills Pass House; Include Projects for Southwest Minnesota

Friday, May 16, 2014

St. Paul – Early on Friday, the House passed a cash bill and a bonding bill, approving projects that will directly impact District 16A.

Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent introduced the bill for one project included—the Southwest Minnesota Regional Amateur Sports Center in Marshall. In the bill, the city of Marshall was given $4.298 million for land, design and construction of the project.

“I worked hard to get this project included for the city of Marshall, and I am glad the legislature chose to make it a priority this year,” said Rep. Swedzinski. “The sports center will be great for local athletes both in high school and college, and also attract expos, art fairs and other events to the region.”

Also included in the list of projects is $22 million for a Lewis and Clark Regional Water System. This pipeline will bring much needed water to southwestern Minnesota.

“This project is critical for southwestern Minnesota, for our communities and for our farmers,” Rep. Swedzinski added. “Too often, rural priorities can be overshadowed by spending in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, but rural members stuck together to ensure this vital project was included in the bill.”

The cash and bonding bills are now awaiting final passage in the Senate. They will then go to Governor Dayton for signature or veto. The legislature must finish their work by May 19, 2014.
