News from Representative Uglem 04-25-2014

Friday, April 25, 2014
Dear Friends,

The legislature is back from the annual Easter/Passover break, and there's now less than a month to go before the 2014 session adjourns.  The state constitution mandates the legislature finish its business no later than May 19th.

One of the biggest bills left to tackle is the bonding bill. In even-numbered years, the legislature passes a bonding bill that helps fund infrastructure and other projects across the state. The state is able to borrow money, much like a credit card, and uses bonding to fund transportation projects, the construction of convention centers, and other large projects that local cities and counties would not otherwise be able to afford.

Two local projects of particular importance I hope to see included are the Champlin Mill Pond dam, as well as funding to add an extra lane for Highway 10. I chief-authored the Champlin dam proposal, and am a co-author on the Highway 10 provision, and am proud that both projects have co-authors on both sides of the aisle.

The final version of the bonding bill that will be voted on has yet to be released, but I will be sure to keep you updated on its progress once it is released, likely early next week.

As we wrap up the 2014 legislative session, please don't hesitate to contact my office with questions, comments, or suggestions. My door is open, and I welcome your input and thoughts. You can reach my office at 651-296-5513 or rep.mark.uglem@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Mark Uglem
