NEWS AND VIEWS WITH REP. DENNY McNAMARA

Thursday, April 24, 2014

Hello from St. Paul,

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday. Lawmakers returned to the State Capitol on April 23, and only a few weeks remain before session is required to adjourn.

One of the top items left on our to-do list is to approve a capital investment proposal – also known as a bonding bill – that borrows money in order to fund construction projects across the state.

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in the final bill. The proposal in its current form does include funding for a bicycle trail in Hastings.

We’re also waiting on a resolution to a bill that provides tax relief; specifically it will include some additional real estate tax relief for property owners. Not long ago the Minnesota House approved legislation that fixes some financial shortfalls and reverses some of the tax changes that were made last year. The Senate approved a different version of the proposal and a joint House/Senate conference committee is attempting to work through the differences and create a plan that both legislative bodies can approve.

Did you know the Cottage Grove Off-Road Bike Park is a finalist for a grant from the International Mountain Bicycling Association?

Supporters say the grant funds will cover the design and construction costs of a world–class dirt plaza. The park, being built by volunteers, is a joint effort between the Minnesota Off–Road Cyclists (MORC) and the City of Cottage Grove.

The Cottage Grove bike park is in competition with three other projects from around the country no others in Minnesota. The grant winner will be decided by online voters. If you would like to help, visit http://www.bellhelmets.com/bellbuilt/. From there, go to Cottage Grove Bike Park and click on SELECT, then enter your email, the code shown, and submit your vote.

Keep in touch,

Denny
