State Representative Kelby Woodard Announces He Will Not Seek Re-election

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

ST. PAUL- State Representative Kelby Woodard (R-Belle Plaine) announced last week that he will not seek re-election to the Minnesota State House of Representatives in 2014.

“It has been an honor to represent my fellow Minnesotans in St. Paul since first being elected in 2010,” said Rep. Woodard. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the good people of Scott, Rice and Le Sueur counties and am happy to have had the opportunity to give back to my country and this state. Our forefathers stressed the importance of a citizen legislature to our republic, and I have aspired to live up to the high standards they set for us all as your state representative.”

Rep. Woodard was first elected to the Minnesota Legislature in 2010 and represents District 20A. He is in his second term and serves as a Minority Leader and as the Republican lead for the House Education Finance Committee. After leaving the House, he plans to help start a new Catholic high school that provides college preparatory classes for underprivileged children.

“This opportunity allows me to once again put words in to action and give back to my community in a new way,” said Rep. Woodard. “As a father of five, I know how parents strive to provide the best for their children.  This school will provide that opportunity to many families who have historically not had a great education as an option.”

“I would like to thank all my constituents for their support and guidance over the past four years,” added Rep. Woodard. “It has been a true honor and privilege to represent you at the Capitol.”
