News from Representative Wills 03-28-2014

Friday, March 28, 2014

Dear Friends,

Another busy week has come and gone in St. Paul. We're now past the second committee deadline, with the third deadline coming next Friday. The second deadline was for bills that met the first deadline (March 21st) in the House, but not the Senate. Likewise, any Senate bill that met the first committee deadline must have been heard in committee before the second committee deadline. This helps the House and Senate prioritize bills, allowing them to focus on bills that are moving in both the House and the Senate. Next Friday's deadline is for major finance or appropriation bills. If a bill misses the committee deadlines, it must referred to the Rules Committee before it could be brought up for a vote in the House.

Here are some other updates from the past week in St. Paul:

2014 Legislative Survey

I have posted my 2014 legislative survey online, and hope you will take a few moments to fill it out. I'm humbled to go to work each day to be a voice for the communities of Apple Valley, Rosemount, and Coates, and I rely on your feedback and input to help guide my work in St. Paul. Your responses are important to me, and I look forward to reading every one of them.

You can take the survey by clicking here or on the link on my House website at http://www.house.mn/57B.

District 57B Day at the Capitol

Final reminder to sign up for District 57B Day at the Capitol, which will take place this Monday, March 31st. This is a great chance to see what a typical day is like while the legislature is in session. Please share widely with friends and neighbors in our district. You can sign up by clicking here, and I encourage you to share the event on Facebook, which you can find here. I hope to see you Monday!

Become a Promise Fellow

As a member of the ServeMinnesota Board, which is part of AmeriCorp, I thought I would pass along information on becoming an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow. Promise Fellows work with young people, helping mentor and tutor students, helping to give young people the tools and resources they need to succeed and school and in their community.

The application deadline is May 1st, 2014. For more information on becoming a Promise Fellow, please click here.

Capitol Visitors

Special thanks to the Rosemount Troop 295 Boy Scots who came to St. Paul on Monday to learn about the legislature and tour the Capitol. Having attended many events with the Rosemount Troop 295 over the past year, it was great to welcome them to the legislature.

It was also great to welcome constituents in St. Paul for Arts Advocacy Day at the Capitol. As a member of the Legacy Committee, it was helpful to hear great stories about how money from the Legacy Amendment is being put to good use promoting the arts within our communities and across the state.

As always, if you're planning a visit to the Capitol, please contact my office to set up a meeting. You can reach my office at any time by calling 651-296-4306 or emailing rep.anna.wills@house.mn. My door is always open, and I value your feedback and comments.

Have a great weekend,

Rep. Anna Wills
State Representative, District 57B
