Tuesday, March 18, 2014

ST. PAUL, Minn.—State Rep. Mike Beard announced this week he is retiring from the legislature after serving six terms in office. Rep. Beard looks forward to devoting more time to his wife, Karen, his children, and his growing family of grandchildren.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the good people of Shakopee and Scott County over the past 12 years. I thank you all, whether you voted for me or not, for the amazing experience of serving you in St. Paul,” said Rep. Beard.

He continued: “My service would not have been at all possible without the faithful and sacrificial support of my wife, Karen. She put her life on hold so that I could represent the needs and priorities of our district. Now it’s my turn to return the favor so she can fulfill her highest calling—to be an amazing grandma to a bunch of wonderful grandkids.”

During his years of service as a citizen legislator, Rep. Beard has become known as a strong voice for commonsense, consensus legislation that promotes economic growth and innovation. He is also well-respected for his expertise on transportation and energy issues. From 2011 to 2012, Rep. Beard served as chair of the House Transportation Finance and Policy Committee, and he currently acts as the Republican-Lead of the House Transportation Finance Committee.

In addition to his work at the legislature, Rep. Beard is an active member of the Shakopee community. He looks forward to staying involved in public service following legislative retirement. “For now, I will continue to represent the folks of Scott County to the best of my abilities,” said Rep. Beard.
