2013 Session Update: March 8

Friday, March 8, 2013

It has been another busy week at the Capitol.  The House passed the Health Insurance Exchange bill Monday and we are fast approaching policy deadlines.  Please check out my video update below to see what I’ve been working on recently:

On Monday, the House passed the Health Insurance Exchange.  The exchange is an online marketplace where Minnesotans will be able to compare and purchase insurance.  If Minnesota fails to pass this legislation by March 31, the Federal government will step in and establish a one-size-fits-all exchange to comply with the Federal Affordable Care Act guidelines.

The Health Insurance Exchange will allow Minnesota to once again lead the nation in healthcare.  By setting up our own exchange, Minnesota has the ability to create a more efficient and cost-effective system compared to the one-size-fits-all Federal model.  Minnesota families are expected to save over $1 billion by using the exchange, and 300,000 uninsured Minnesotans are projected to gain coverage through the exchange by 2016.  The end result of this effort will be healthier families and a healthier Minnesota.

If you have any ideas for future video updates, please let me know.  In addition, please contact me directly with any questions, comments, or concerns on any legislative issue. I can be reached by phone at (651) 296-8237 or by email at rep.patti.fritz@house.mn.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Patti Fritz
