Events to commemorate Veterans Day

Thursday, November 7, 2013

Dear Neighbor,

Veterans of our nation’s armed forces are a proud group that is honored to have served our Country.

As citizens, we should take the time to let veterans know how much we appreciate their efforts and how much we value their service. We are fortunate to reap the rewards of their incredible sacrifices.

Veterans Day is Monday and I encourage people to thank a veteran for their service and to share their legacy with younger generations. My family combines for 90 years of military service and six deployments. I will share some of my insight with an area school to commemorate Veterans Day.

I also encourage citizens to take part in local Veterans Day events, including a couple at the St. Cloud VA hospital. Here are some highlights:

The seventh-annual Veterans Day Parade and Social will take place 1 p.m. Sunday, starting on the west side of the VA campus and finishing at Apollo High School. The post-parade social will take place in the school’s cafeteria. Veterans, active-duty military, Reservists and National Guard members all are invited to march in the parade. If you want to participate, just show up at the VA and walk to Apollo.

Another Veterans Day program will take place 1:30 p.m. Monday in the VA’s auditorium. There will be a tribute to all branches of service, a Veterans Day message provided by a guest speaker and more.

Click here for more information about both of these events.

Veterans also are invited to attend Military and Veterans Appreciation Night, Saturday Nov. 9 at St. Cloud State University, for a Huskies hockey game against Miami University (Ohio) at the Brooks Center. All service members – active and retired – can receive a special buy one-get one deal on tickets for the game. The face-off will be 7:07 p.m. and more information is available at www.scsutickets.com or by calling the SCSU ticket office at (320) 308-2137.

Good Luck,

Jeff
