Area Teacher Wins Drawing to Attend State of the State Address with Rep. Atkins

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota — State Representative Joe Atkins (DFL – Inver Grove Heights) recently held a drawing for those on his email update list and on his Facebook page for an extra ticket to Governor Dayton’s State of the State speech. Lisa Murphy, a 6th grade social studies teacher at Inver Grove Heights Middle School, won the drawing and will be joining Rep. Atkins on the Minnesota House of Representatives floor to watch the address.

“The point of the free drawing was to give everyone a chance to attend the State of the State, not just elected officials and political insiders,” said Rep. Atkins. “I’m excited that Ms. Murphy will get the opportunity to get an almost front row seat to the governor’s address, and hopefully it will provide a good topic for discussion in her social studies classes on Thursday.”

Governor Dayton’s State of the State Address will be delivered at 7 pm tonight. For those who didn’t win the lottery drawing, complete live video coverage of Wednesday's Joint Convention and the State of the State Address will be available via the House's live web and mobile streaming services. The schedule of House video streaming events can be found here: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/htv/schedule.asp. The State of the State Address will be broadcast on television as part of Twin Cities Public Television's "Almanac: At the Capitol."
