Rep. Laurie Halverson Encourages Area Students to Apply for Dakota Electric’s Washington DC Youth Tour

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota — State Representative Laurie Halverson (DFL – Eagan) is encouraging area students to apply for Dakota Electric Association’s Washington DC Youth Tour. Dakota Electric Association will provide five high school juniors or seniors the opportunity to win an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour, June 14-20.

Each June, more than 1,200 junior and senior students from across the country travel to Washington, D.C. for the NRECA Youth Tour. During the trip they learn about electric cooperatives and government, meet elected officials and tour national monuments and sites, including the Smithsonian, and more.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our students to visit our nation’s capital and learn more about our government, civic engagement, and important issues,” said Rep. Halverson. “I wholeheartedly encourage students to apply and I thank the Dakota Electric Association for providing this opportunity to area students.”

To apply, students can pick up an application form from their high school guidance counselor, download it off the web or pick one up at Dakota Electric’s Farmington office.

The application deadline is February 25. Interviews are scheduled for March 14 and 19. For more information, call Peggy Johnson at 651-463-6110 or 1-800-874-3409, ext. 110.

Rep. Halverson encourages constituents to contact her with any comments, questions, concerns, or ideas on any legislative topic. Rep. Halverson can be reached by phone at 651-296-4128 or by email at rep.laurie.halverson@house.mn.
