Legislative Update (Dec. 17, 2013)

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

Dear neighbor,

We are 6 days away from the December 23 deadline for Minnesotans to get coverage through MNsure effective January 1, 2014. Meanwhile, zero insurance policy cards have been issued and the average MNsure help line wait time is reaching nearly an hour long, leaving citizens worried they won’t have health insurance coverage.

While Governor Dayton says he’s losing sleep over his failed implementation of ObamaCare, he continues to defend his MNsure director and state Medicaid director taking a 2-week tropical vacation during the failed rollout. To add insult to injury, Democrat leaders who ushered ObamaCare into Minnesota haven’t held a MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee meeting in over 3 months despite repeated requests.

On Friday, I sent a letter to Governor Dayton outlining my concerns. Specifically, I’m troubled that many of my constituents may be left in the lurch not knowing if they will have health insurance coverage beginning on January 1. A group representing insurance companies in Minnesota has said that MNsure has been unable to transmit enrollment data necessary to determine who has purchased coverage. This has left health insurance companies without any information as to who they will be covering beginning in 2014.

That’s why I asked Governor Dayton to provide me with a list of names and addresses of my constituents who have done everything they can to enroll with a health plan but don’t have policy documents or coverage confirmation. I also requested information from the governor on people within my district who believe they’ve signed up for a plan but have not yet received a billing statement.

Attached you’ll find my letter to Governor Dayton. If you are having issues completing enrollment with MNsure, please contact my office. I know this is an extremely busy time of year, but my office is open and I’m here to help. You can reach me at rep.nick.zerwas@house.mn. To contact me by phone, call (651) 296-4237. Mail can be sent to Rep. Nick Zerwas, 303 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, Minnesota 55155.

Sincerely,

Nick
