STATE REP. GENE PELOWSKI REPORTS HOW THE LOTTERY FUNDS HELP MINNESOTA

ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota State Lottery announced this week that they contributed a record $124 million to state programs last year, including almost $1 million from sales in House District 28A.  Contributions from sales in 28A included $523,081 to the General Fund, $237,993 to the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, and $93,792 each to the Game and Fish Fund and Natural Resources Fund.

State Representative Gene Pelowski (DFL – Winona), who represents the district, is often asked how these funds are used in the Minnesota budget.

“This report details how the funds are raised and how the funds are used. The largest portion goes to the General Fund and helps education, health and human services, local government aid, higher education and other parts of the budget.”

Statewide, lottery sales reached $520 million in fiscal 2012.  Of the $124 million in contributions given, $68 million went to the General Fund, $31 million went to the Environment and Natural Resources Fund, and $12 million each went to the Game and Fish Fund and Natural Resources Fund.

Throughout the legislative session, Rep. Pelowski encourages all constituents to contact him directly with any questions, comments, or concerns on any legislative issue. Rep. Pelowski can be reached by phone at (651) 296-8637 or by email at rep.gene.pelowski@house.mn.
