ST. PAUL, MN - State Representative Barb Yarusso (DFL - Shoreview) was officially sworn in as the District 42A State Representative as the 88th Legislative Session convened at noon on January 8th at the State Capitol. Rep. Yarusso, first elected in 2012, is beginning her first term in the Minnesota House of Representatives serving Arden Hills, Mounds View, Shoreview and Spring Lake Park.
“Minnesota faces many challenges and opportunities," said Rep. Yarusso. “It is time for elected officials to work together on creating jobs, strengthening education and responsibly balancing the state’s budget.”
Economic forecasts revealed early last month that lawmakers must tackle a $1.1 billion budget shortfall this year. When the money still owed to schools and inflation is included the shortfall rises to over $3 billion.
“I am confident that we can work on a common sense approach to our state’s fiscal problems.” added Rep. Yarusso. “We have a real opportunity to implement sound policy and put Minnesota back on the road to prosperity.”
Much of that work will begin in legislative hearings throughout the coming weeks and months. This session Rep. Yarusso will serve on the Civil Law, Education Policy, Environment Policy and Energy Policy Committees.
“I’m very excited to begin work on these committees and for the opportunity work on local issues that will impact the residents of 42A,” said Rep. Yarusso.
Throughout the legislative session, Rep. Yarusso encourages all constituents to contact her directly with any questions, comments, or concerns on any legislative issue. Rep. Yarusso can be reached by phone at (651) 296-0141 or by email at rep.barb.yarusso@house.mn.
