STATE REP. ROSENTHAL SWORN-IN AS LEGISLATIVE SESSION BEGINS

Wednesday, January 9, 2013

ST. PAUL, MN - State Representative Paul Rosenthal (DFL - Bloomington) was officially sworn in as the District 49B State Representative as the 88th Legislative Session convened at noon on January 8th  at the State Capitol.  Rep. Rosenthal, first elected in 2008, is beginning his second non-consecutive term in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

“The State of Minnesota needs to get its finances back on track," said Rep. Rosenthal. “I plan to work across the aisle to responsibly balance the budget, pay back our schools and grow new jobs.”

Economic forecasts revealed early last month that lawmakers must tackle a $1.1 billion budget shortfall this year. When the money still owed to schools and inflation is included the shortfall rises to over $3 billion.

In light of the challenging economic forecast, Rep. Rosenthal indicated a strong desire for the legislature to work together to balance the budget.

“I will work with Democrats, Republicans and Independents to help our state thrive.  We are one Minnesota and together we can address our state’s problems with common sense solutions. ”

Much of that work will begin in legislative hearings throughout the coming weeks and months. This session Rep. Rosenthal will serve as vice chair of the Public Safety Policy and Finance Committee, as well as a member of the Civil Law, Higher Education, and Transportation Policy Committees.

“I’m very excited get to work on the issues that matter most to Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Minnetonka residents.” said Rep. Rosenthal.

Throughout the legislative session, Rep. Rosenthal encourages all constituents to contact him directly with any questions, comments, or concerns on any issue. Rep. Rosenthal can be reached by phone at 651-296-7803 or by email at rep.paul.rosenthal@house.mn.
