ZERWAS STATEMENT ON MNDOT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR I-94 EXPANSION

Thursday, November 14, 2013

ST. PAUL – Rep. Nick Zerwas (R-Elk River) issued the following statement regarding the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s decision to include expansion of I-94 between Rogers and St. Michael as part of its Corridors of Commerce funding plan:

“I’m happy the Dayton administration has come around to recognizing that expanding roads is the best way to improve road safety and ease congestion. Expanding I-94 will significantly enhance the safety of traffic flow while making it easier for commuter and commercial traffic to get to their destination. I’ve been advocating for this change for many years including during my time on the Elk River City Council. I’m thrilled this project is finally moving forward.

Representative David FitzSimmons of Albertville deserves great credit for taking the lead on this and putting the pressure on the Department of Transportation to prioritize this critical initiative. David put together a coalition of civic leaders, business leaders, and local elected officials to make the case to the Department of Transportation that expanding I-94 between Rogers and St. Michael is essential not only for our community, but for the state.

Now that this project will begin in the coming months, I will continue to advocate for upgrading Highway 10. Our transportation dollars should be prioritized to make sure that our roads are safe and easily drivable for commuter and commercial traffic.”
