Theis Statement on Corridors of Commerce Announcement

Thursday, November 14, 2013
For Immediate Release

ST. PAUL - State Representative Tama Theis (R-St. Cloud) issued the following statement in response to the announcement today by Governor Mark Dayton that a portion of Interstate 94 will receive Corridors of Commerce funding from the Minnesota Department of Transportation in 2014.

"Along with dozens of my colleagues from both parties in the Minnesota Legislature, I have been advocating for increased funding to expand I-94 between the Twin Cities and St. Cloud since I was sworn into office. Today's news that Governor Dayton and MnDOT share our goal of making this critical corridor a priority for the state is welcome news, but we have significant work ahead outside of this individual section of freeway. The legislature must prioritize this section of the state in future highway funding and bonding. For far too long, economic activity, recreational and family travel, and public safety have all suffered as a result of horrific congestion along this I-94 route. I hope to see future projects added to MnDOT's long-term plan that ensure more lanes are added along the entire St. Cloud to Twin Cities route."
