Rep. Leidiger encourages attendance at local Veterans Day programs

Monday, November 4, 2013

Please join me this Veterans Day in a quiet moment of remembrance, honor and gratitude for those who have served our country and those who continue to protect and sustain our many freedoms. The selfless service of American armed forces is worthy of our thanks and reflection. It is this noble commitment that makes it possible for us to live in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Carver County is fortunate to have several ceremonies dedicated to paying respect to veterans this coming Mon., Nov. 11. If you are able, I encourage you to join me at one of four ceremonies.

The day starts with a program at Chaska Middle School West at 7:30 a.m. A flag-raising ceremony is followed by a 45-minute presentation to honor veterans.

Second, I will give a presentation on the USS Minnesota—the nation’s newest fast attack submarine recently commissioned into service—at Mayer Lutheran High School at 10:00 a.m. Learn more about my trip to send the ship’s crew into service: http://ussminnesotacommissioningtour.tumblr.com.

The third event of the day will be held at City Square Park in Waconia with a Flag Dedication Ceremony starting at 5:00 p.m. The Waconia Lions made a generous donation to the city for the installation of five poles to display the flags from each of the military branches.

The day will come to a close with a Waconia VFW meeting at 7:30 p.m.
