Rep.-elect Bly Selected as Vice Chair of Housing Finance and Policy Committee

Friday, December 21, 2012

(ST. PAUL) — Last week, House Speaker-designate Paul Thissen announced the Minnesota House of Representatives committee assignments for the 2013-2014 biennium, selecting state Representative-elect David Bly (DFL – Northfield) to serve as the Vice Chair on the Housing Finance and Policy Committee and as a member on the Education Policy, Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture Finance, and Judiciary Finance and Policy Committees.

“It’s an honor and privilege to serve on these important committees,” said Rep.-elect Bly. “After the housing bust and with foreclosures continuing at a rapid pace, we need to do what we can to help Minnesotans who are still struggling. I look forward to working with my colleagues on Education Policy so we can improve our schools and make Minnesota a national education leader once again.

“We’re fortunate in Minnesota to have such a beautiful environment and it’s important that we protect it, both for our quality of life and for many local economies throughout the state. Minnesota has an opportunity to also lead the nation in new, clean, green energy jobs, and it’s an opportunity we shouldn’t pass up. I also look forward to working on the Judiciary Finance and Policy Committee, and to ensure that our justice system is efficient and effective for Minnesotans.

Rep.-elect Bly also announced that he is recovering at home from bypass surgery.

“My recovery is going very well and I look forward to joining my colleagues when session begins in January,” added Rep.-elect Bly.

Rep.-elect Bly is a retired teacher working for 30 years in the Minnesota Public Schools, including 20 years at the Northfield Alternative Learning Center, where he worked with students who needed a different approach to succeed in school. Rep.-elect Bly previously served two terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2007 to 2010.

The Legislative Session is scheduled to begin on January 8, 2013.
