It’s Time for Legislature to Get Back to Basics, Balance the Budget Honestly

I am honored to serve you for another term in the Minnesota House and I will approach this session with the seriousness it deserves. I will continue to put your needs and the needs of our district ahead of partisan politics and work toward producing a structurally sound budget.

Balancing the budget must be our top priority. As you’ve seen in the news, Minnesota faces a $1.1 billion budget deficit. We must finally tackle our state’s fiscal issues in a fair way that keeps Minnesota competitive and funds our priorities. Revenue Commissioner Frans has been soliciting feedback from Minnesotans and businesses on how best to reform our tax system. We should listen to the proposal that the Governor and Commissioner offer as our starting point.

Our next priority must be education, which should have a fair, reformed slice of the budgetary pie. A good education system provides the well-educated workforce we need to have a strong, growing economy. We need a plan to pay back our schools and I will work to see that this is done.

Stop by my “Second Saturday” coffees, email me, or complete my legislative survey in the coming months. Your input is essential in helping me make the best decisions for our community. I’m confident that if we work together, we will move Minnesota forward.
