News from Representative Uglem 10-25-2013

Friday, October 25, 2013

Dear Friends,

Governor Dayton has proposed making the next legislative session, which begins in February, an "unsession." The purpose of the unsession would be to repeal old or outdated laws, or laws that are holding back job creation and economic growth in our state. We have dozens of arcane and outdated state laws that have no reason being on the books, as they are no longer enforced or no longer relevant as technology and society has moved forward.

I think this is an idea that Republicans and Democrats alike can get behind. There's already been extensive discussion about repealing some of the harmful and misguided taxes passed last session, such as the warehousing tax which begins in April, and the machinery equipment repair tax which impacts businesses across nearly every industry from restaurants to farms to logging.

The unsession is an opportunity for constituents to suggest ideas for laws that should be repealed as well. Governor Dayton sent a request to all state employees soliciting unsession ideas, and I wanted to do the same for the folks in the Champlin-Coon Rapids community.

If you have an idea for a law that should be repealed during this upcoming session, I want to hear from you. You can send suggestions via email at rep.mark.uglem@house.mn, by phone at 651-296-5513, or by mail at 331 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155.

Some of the best ideas for laws come from constituents with good ideas, so I hope to hear from you!

Coon Rapids Beef Recall
I also wanted to alert you to a recently announced beef recall impacting the Costco in Coon Rapids. The USDA Food & Safety Inspection Service announced earlier this week that they were recalling 383 units of 88% lean fresh ground beef.

The product was sold to 342 customers between September 4th and September 7th at the Costco on Riverdale Blvd in Coon Rapids, and could be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

Please check the beef in your freezer if you think this might impact you. You can find more information here.

Have a great weekend,

Mark
