Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Last week I traveled with a group of legislators up to the proposed site of a future PolyMet mine near Babbit, Minnesota. The PolyMet mine would bring hundreds of jobs to the region, and once operational it is estimated to bring $1.4 million dollars per day to the local economy.
These are the kinds of opportunities our state must take advantage of in order to grow the economy in Northern Minnesota. While concerns about the environmental impact must be addressed to ensure that PolyMet would comply with all current environmental laws and regulations, I believe that we can move forward with the project and allow the mine to operate while continuing to protect Minnesota's natural resources.

MNsure enrollment begins October 1st
Open enrollment for MNsure -- the online health insurance exchange where citizens can purchase health insurance -- begins on October 1st.
Over the past month, there have been numerous news stories documenting concerns over data security for MNsure. Minnesotans need to have confidence that their private health information will be safe and secure when they enroll using MNsure. With less than a week to go before open enrollment, reports of "worries about “an abnormally high risk of a data breach” during the exchange’s first six months" are worrisome.
Governor Dayton and MNsure need to make sure these, and all other outstanding concerns, are addressed and tested before opening the exchange. Unfortunately, far too many Minnesotans are unsure about MNsure, and that's unacceptable with so little time remaining before October 1st.
