Public Comments Wanted on Sherco Plant

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Friends and Neighbors,

I wanted to inform you that the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) will soon negotiate with Xcel Energy about the future of the Sherco 1 and 2 power generators located in Becker. As this evaluation of the plant approaches, activist environmental groups like the Sierra Club are hoping to close down the Sherco operation and eliminate the jobs they currently provide.

Sherco provides enough electricity to power millions of homes and is a vital part of our local economy. They have continued to meet all applicable laws and regulations regarding coal-fired power generation. These regulations have been steadily growing, making energy more expensive for all of us. I urge you to contact the PUC and tell them why it’s important to keep Sherco open for the good of central Minnesota.

The PUC is welcoming public comments about the plant through October 1, which you can leave via email or U.S. mail.

Email: PublicComments.PUC@state.mn.us
U.S. Mail: Public Utilities Commission, 121 7th Place East, Suite 350, St. Paul, MN 55101

Remember to include PUC Docket No. RP-13-368 at the top of your letter or in the subject line of your email. Include your specific recommendations and the reasons you care about this decision along with your name and address.

Sincerely,

Rep. Tama Theis
