Remembering September 11, 2001

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

Dear neighbor,

Today we mark the twelfth anniversary of the attacks of September of 11, 2001. As I reflect upon that tragic day, I’m moved by the heroic actions of the policemen, firefighters, and paramedics who risked their lives by running into burning flames of collapsing buildings in order to save the lives of others. Sadly, in their rescue efforts, many of the first responders did not return from the wreckage.

I’m also reminded of the brave souls aboard Flight 93. Ordinary Americans made a conscious decision to sacrifice their own lives in order to save countless others.

In the months and years after the attacks of September 11, 2001, the men and women of our armed forces performed courageously – many of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice – as our country responded to acts of terror.

The bravery of these men and women is inspiring. Where does courage like that come from? What possesses everyday Americans to act in such extraordinary ways?

I truly believe it’s the reflection of the spirit of our nation. The strength of our country, the faith of our families, and the goodwill in our communities produces such character.

Thus, as I remember that autumn morning twelve years ago and the events that have transpired since, I can’t help but have a sense of overwhelming gratitude and appreciation for our nation’s heroes.

May we never forget that day and those who sacrifice to secure the blessings of our nation.

Sincerely,

Steve
