DETTMER STATEMENT ON SEPTEMBER 11 ANNIVERSARY

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

ST. PAUL – State Representative Bob Dettmer (R-Forest Lake), a US Army Reserve veteran, four-term legislator, and House Minority Lead of the State Government Finance and Veterans Affairs Committee, issued the following statement regarding the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

“On this day twelve years ago, all of us were visited by the frightening reality that terror and evil still exist in this world and that our worst enemies are determined to alter our way of life. While our freedoms make us a beacon of hope in the world, they also make us a target - a target worth fighting for.

We were all impacted in different ways after September 11. My twin sons Robb and Travis graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and entered the U.S. Army just months before the attacks took place. In November 2001, I was deployed to support Operation Enduring Freedom in the Middle East in my role as a U.S. Army Reservist. Since then, America’s armed forces have made sacrifices at home and abroad to protect all of us in a dangerous world. Peace is best maintained through a strong national defense.

As policy makers, we owe all of our veterans, first responders and law enforcement officers the very best state government has to offer. I strive to fight for these changes in my service as a legislator. As the country continues to mourn the loss of those that died twelve years ago, may we also keep in our prayers those that continue to fight so that we may live as free Americans.”
