ZERWAS REACTS TO MNSURE RATE RELEASE

Friday, September 6, 2013

ST. PAUL – On Friday, state officials from MNsure and the Minnesota Department of Commerce disclosed the rates to be offered through Democrats’ Insurance Exchange.

“Today we learned that the promises of Obamacare are continuing to fail hardworking Minnesotans,” said Rep. Nick Zerwas (R-Elk River). “Under the rates released by MNsure, there is no guarantee the health insurance will be more affordable or that you will be able to keep your doctor.”

Meanwhile, Minnesota Democrats are expected to spend more than $330 million on their exchange by 2016.

“With more than $100 million of taxpayer money spent on MNsure, it’s troubling that not a single penny has been spent on actual health care like pediatric check-ups for kids, preventative screenings for women or prescriptions for the elderly,” said Zerwas.

After the presentation by MNsure and the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Democrats hailed the news of the rates and proclaimed them to be affordable for Minnesotans.

“Do not be fooled when Democrats say Minnesota will have the lowest average rates in the country. All Minnesotans will be forced to pay more under MNsure than what’s offered in the private market in Minnesota,” said Zerwas.

MNsure’s Legislative Oversight Committee meets Tuesday, September 10th at 3:30 pm in Room 10 of the State Office Building.
