2011-2012 Session Issues - Labor

In addition to supporting the capitol investment bill putting many Minnesotans back to work, I worked with my labor friends in the Legislature to fight back anti-union attacks.

We were successful in stopping the "right to work" legislation or perhaps what it should be called the "right to work, for less" constitutional amendment on the ballot. I also voted against the "Last Out, First In" provision that was attack on our teachers. In my view, the issues of seniority and teacher effectiveness should be left to our local school boards.

As a member of the Jobs and Economic Development Committee, I fought attempts to end "prevailing wage", statutes that wouldn’t save money and would result in reduced wages for workers.
