Howe participates in Yellow Ribbon ceremony

LITTLE FALLS - Rep. Jeff Howe, R-Rockville, joined Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner-Solon and Rep. Ron Kresha, R-Little Falls, at a Yellow Ribbon Proclamation Ceremony Wednesday at Camp Ripley.

The event proclaimed Morrison and Crow Wing Counties as Yellow Ribbon counties. Little Falls, Motley, Royalton, Swanville, Sobieski, Harding, Buckman, Upsala, Randall, Pierz, Bowlus, Elmdale, Lastrup, Monticello and Buffalo received distinction as Yellow Ribbon cities.

The Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program creates awareness for the purpose of connecting service members and their families with community support, training, services and resources. The aforementioned cities and counties were recognized for developing a sustainable action plan demonstrating their commitment to service members and military families.

Central Minnesota Warrior to Citizen is the local chapter of Beyond the Yellow Ribbon and it hosted the event. Howe is a member of CMWC, which represents nine cities in central Minnesota.

“We have an awful lot of talented veterans out there who could bring valuable skills to our state’s workforce,” Howe said. “But, the sad reality is, too many of our service people fall through the cracks when they come home from deployment. It is satisfying to see the Yellow Ribbon program work with cities and counties to make a difference in Minnesota.”

Howe is a U.S. Army major with nearly 35 years of military service. He is a veteran of two deployments to Iraq and has earned two Bronze Stars. He has made veteran reintegration a top priority as a member of the Minnesota House, including a measure he authored this year to help veterans obtain graduate degrees.
