I wanted to share with you some updates from this past week, and a look at the week ahead.

IN THE COMMUNITY:

Ribbon Cutting at Maurice's in Apple Valley

On Tuesday, July 2nd I joined Mayor Mary, Chamber President Ed and other Chamber members in welcoming Maurice's to Apple Valley! Their new store is located in the shopping center East of The Valley Tap House in between Ulta Cosmetics and Famous Footwear at 14929 Florence Trail, Suite 300, Apple Valley, MN 55124.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Senior Complex Proposal Open House           
Developers are ready to present plans for a senior living complex and community center in downtown Rosemount, a project long-sought after by the city. City officials and the developer, Stonebridge Communities, will hold an open house from 7pm to 8pm on Thursday, July 11, at Rosemount City Hall, 2875 145th Street West, Rosemount, MN to give residents a chance to find out more about the complex, which would be located on the former site of the St. Joseph’s School. If you are interested in weighing in on the proposed complex, please consider attending the open house event.d members at this event.                    

Welcome Pep Rally at Rosemount High School

The Rosemount High School band is hosting the Tournament of Roses President Scott Jenkins and his wife, Cindy. The band will host a pep rally at the PAC at Rosemount High School on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 10:00 am. I am honored to be invited to speak to the band members at this event.

Ben Kopp Memorial Ride

Ben Kopp Memorial Ride is coming up this weekend, Friday July 12th and Saturday 13th. For more information on the Ben Kopp Memorial Ride, which honors the lives and sacrifices of our men and women in the military and raises money for veterans organizations, please visit the Facebook event page here.

Job Fairs:

New Taxes Now In Effect
Starting July 1st, the taxes passed this past legislation session went into effect. The new list of taxes includes:

  • A new 4th tier income tax on individuals making $150,000 or more, and couples making $250,000 or more.
     
  • A $1.60 per pack increase on cigarettes.
     
  • Online sales taxes from sites like Amazon, and taxes on digital downloads on iTunes songs, e-books, etc.
     
  • New taxes on equipment repair and telecommunications equipment for businesses.
     
  • Increased taxes on rental cars.
     
  • An increased fee to renew or obtain your driver’s license.
