2013 budget: every man, woman and child in the state will pay more

Thursday, May 23, 2013

To the Editor:

Minnesota families will soon get a bill for the Democrat government spending increases of over $3 billion. Taxes and fees are being raised by over $2.6 billion to cover a $627 million budget gap.

Under this plan, every man, woman and child in the state will pay more. Hidden taxes and trickle-down costs will literally hit home under this tax-everyone budget package.

Families will pay more for heating their homes, food, personal and homecare products, and medical products. Health insurance premiums will also increase under the Democrat majority budget. Even the seemingly simple areas of daily life will be taxed directly or indirectly, like Amazon and iTunes purchases, vehicle registrations, gas, and yes, beer.

Instead of removing barriers to job growth, the Tax bill alone will result in over 10,000 in lost jobs. Mom and pop shops who struggled to make it through the recession will find it difficult to survive under new business-to-business taxes. Rather than lightening their tax burden or incentivizing private sector job growth, Democrats prioritized government growth and created more than 1,266 new government jobs.

We must ask, when our small business economic engine grinds to a halt, who will be left to pay for future deficits when government out-spends this new revenue in just two short years?

You deserve better.

Though my Republican colleagues and I were able to get rid of many other tax increases proposed by the Democrat majorities and though we secured funding for our nursing homes and disabled, the Democrats still pushed through the unionization of private business owners of child care facilities. This change alone will increase the cost of child care for every family.

The 2013 legislative session has come to a close, but please feel free to contact me at any time. I am here to serve the people and priorities of Plymouth. Together we can bring job growth back to Minnesota and create a better future.

Sincerely,

Sarah Anderson
