Dear Neighbor,
With only days left to this legislative session, the Democrat majority is focusing on divisive issues, like forced unionization of child care providers, costly solar mandates, and re-defining marriage, rather than balancing the state budget. Last night, the House suspended its rules to debate the first completed conference committee budget report.
Last Sunday, Democrat leaders from the House and Senate held a press conference with the governor announcing they had struck a budget deal, however, they are still negotiating how high and which taxes will increase. So far the Democrat majority's proposals are trying to deal with a $627 million dollar projected 2014/15 budget deficit by increasing taxes by $2.6+ billion dollars. These massive tax increases will have significant ramifications and will hurt every hard-working Minnesota family and business. The majority party is leaving precious little time for the public or legislative members to review the omnibus tax and spending budget bills. The legislature's adjournment deadline, next Monday, May 20, is fast approaching, yet significant work remains to be completed.
The House is scheduled to debate the child care unionization bill this Saturday, May 18th. Today, the Star Tribune editorial board wrote in strong opposition to House File 950. I encourage you to come to the Capitol this Saturday when this unprecedented unionization of small business owners is debated.
Thank you for following my legislative work. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your comments or concerns.
Sincerely yours,
Pam
