Hwy. 28 project to start; budget bills update

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Dear Neighbor,

With the weather forecast finally hinting that spring is on the way, road construction projects will begin to ramp up across Minnesota. Just a note to residents of District 12B on a project scheduled to start next Monday, April 29:

A mill-and-overlay project on Highway 28 from the Stearns-Pope county line going east into Sauk Centre will get underway. The project, whose starting date has already been pushed back once because of winter-like weather, will end at the junction of Highways 28 and 71 in Sauk Centre.

The western stretch of that same road, from Glenwood to the Pope-Stearns county line, was done last summer.

Talk of temps in the 60s by the week end certainly sounds good. It will take many nice days, however, to dry out and warm up area fields before the seeding of crops can begin.

We are debating more large omnibus bills on the House floor this week. The Health and Human Services bill was passed on a mostly party-line vote late last evening. Today, we are hearing the K-12 education bill, which is the funding mechanism for state aid to all school districts in Minnesota. Education spending represents the largest single outlay in the state's general fund budget. On tomorrow’s schedule is the House Tax bill, a measure that contains more than $2.5 billion in tax increases.

I will keep you updated as these bills progress.

Sincerely,

Paul
