Nursing homes and hospitals will be the hardest hit by the House Democrat majority’s $150 million in cuts to Health and Human Services

Thursday, May 9, 2013

To the Editor:

Nursing homes and hospitals will be the hardest hit by the House Democrat majority’s $150 million in cuts to Health and Human Services (HHS).

Despite increasing taxes and fees by over $3 billion on hardworking Minnesotans, the new leadership cut our nursing homes and plan to tax hospitals to make up the difference. They have even eliminated the Long Term Care tax credit.

No other area of the budget took this hit. As a result, our state’s most vulnerable citizens will be forced to pay more for critical services, all as a result of misplaced priorities.

I believe the health care budget should be accountable, responsible and sustainable to hardworking taxpayers. However, the new majority is threatening the hard work of the last two years and reverting our nation-leading system to the status quo by increasing our dependence on federal money and borrowing against the future.

Minnesotans deserve better, and we as a state can do better.

It is an honor to serve the people of Plymouth in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Please feel free to contact me at any time. My door is always open.

Sincerely,

State Representative Sarah Anderson
