Dettmer Statement on HF956 - Omnibus Energy Bill

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

Statement from Rep. Bob Dettmer, R-Forest Lake, on the Omnibus Energy bill passed by the Minnesota House last night. Dettmer is the GOP-lead member of the Minnesota House State Government Finance & Veterans Affairs committee.

“I could not support HF956 last night because it shatters a major promise made by House Democrats to protect hardworking taxpayers from major tax increases. The new regulations and restrictions on our energy producers will be some of the most extreme in the United States and rival many nations in Europe, raising the price of electricity by billions of dollars for our families, businesses, farmers, and retired/fixed-income citizens. In order to pass the bill, the authors were forced to build in special exemptions for various parts of the state to win over support. Unfortunately, our area will still be hurt by costly new solar panel requirements built on false hopes and untested technology. St. Paul picks winners and losers in this bill, and the losers are the people of Minnesota."
