ALBRIGHT PASSES FIRST BILL IN THE LEGISLATURE

Friday, May 3, 2013

Bipartisan Support for HF758 to improve the Governor’s Workforce Development Council

St. Paul – State Representative Tony Albright (R-Prior Lake) successfully passed his first piece of legislation in the Minnesota House of Representatives today with overwhelming support. House File 758 is a bipartisan effort in the House and Senate to add a representative for adult education programs to the Governor’s Workforce Development Council. The WDC is made up of leaders from business, education, labor, community organizations, and state and local governments and works to bring practical solutions to Minnesota’s workforce challenges.

Albright was informed during his legislative committee work that the Council will lose a member of the board representing adult education programs, so he authored the bill to ensure this voice is present for the work of the Council.

The Council ensures employers play an active role in improving education and training programs, and provides a venue for the workforce stakeholders to build a shared vision and strategic alliances.

“It was a pleasure working with my colleagues in both parties and the Governor’s Workforce Development Council to offer this suggestion for bringing more important stakeholders to the decision making process. Our number one priority in St. Paul must be job creation, and this is one part of that work. I hope to help bring further improvements and efficiencies to our state’s job efforts in the future.”

HF758 was merged with Senate File 380 and will likely move to Governor Dayton for his signature into law.
