Tomorrow, March 1, the House Jobs and Economic Development Committee will hear several bills that comprise the DFL jobs plan put forth by Governor Dayton and the House and Senate DFL caucuses. The committee will hear the following bills:
• HF 2186 (Fritz) Expand the Minnesota Investment Fund: Helps small businesses compete by providing $10 million in additional funding for the Minnesota Investment Fund, which has a track record of helping Minnesota to attract businesses to locate or expand here.
• HF 2185 (Scalze) Provide grants to cities for business infrastructure: Utilize $20 million in bonding resources to help businesses expand in Minnesota. These DEED resources would provide grants to cities for business infrastructure, help local authorities renew old property for business development and aid in the development of transit improvements focused on businesses.
• HF 2277 (Mahoney) New Jobs Tax Credit: Provides businesses with a $3,000 tax credit for each unemployed Minnesotan, Veteran or recent graduate hired in 2012.
• HF 2184 (Mahoney) Create Bridge to Work program: Creates a pilot program to help unemployed Minnesotans get a foot in the door with a Minnesota employer. The pilot program would assist up to 5,000 unemployed workers re-enter the workforce by providing a wage supplement at no additional cost to the state.
• HF 2181 (Brynaert) Expand Minnesota FastTRAC program: Expanding FastTRAC statewide to help more underprepared adults succeed in the workplace by integrating basic skills education and career-specific training in fields where new skills are in high demand.
