In addition to balancing the budget, our state’s constitution requires us as lawmakers to re-analyze and re-evaluate Minnesota’s Legislative, Senate, and Congressional districts every 10 years. Called redistricting, it is a tradition that requires public input in order to achieve a fair and balanced political landscape in Minnesota.
The drawing of these maps will impact how you are represented at the state legislature and in congress. As such I urge all of you to attend the upcoming committee hearing on Congressional redistricting, taking place this Tuesday, May 10 at 10:15a.m. Unfortunately, the hearing is scheduled during normal business hours—an inconvenience to many of you working to support yourself and your families. However, I would encourage you to attend if possible.
The proposed map that will be debated at this hearing is not currently available. We expect that it will be posted online at approximately 10:15 a.m. Monday, and you should be able to find it online if you go to the Redistricting Committee's homepage. There should be instructions there leading you to the actual map. The Redistricting Committee web link is: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/comm/committee.asp?comm=87016.
These maps are not about Democrats, Republicans, or any political party—they are about you.
