News from Representative Uglem 02-11-2013

Monday, February 11, 2013

Dear friends,

Some updates from Saint Paul:

State of the State

I had the pleasure of welcoming George Hutson, owner of Filtration Engineering in Champlin, as my guest to Wednesday’s State of the State address. Before the address, George and other local job creators from districts across the state participated in a jobs roundtable where legislators had the opportunity to hear feedback about Governor Dayton's budget proposal.

There is a great deal of concerns from families and businesses alike from across Minnesota about the Governor's tax plan, and how it would affect their day to day lives and businesses. It is incredibly helpful to hear from constituents and job creators alike, and I look forward to reading your emails as session goes on about the Governor's budget proposal.

District 36A Visits

I had the pleasure of welcoming two student groups from Northwest Passage High School and Crossroads Alternative School, both located in Coon Rapids. I also had the chance to meet with constituents from the Minnesota Professional Firefighters (MPFF), as well as nurses from the Minnesota Nurses Association in Saint Paul as a part of Nurses Day on the Hill.

If you or a group you're involved in are planning to come to Saint Paul and would like to schedule a meeting, please contact me at rep.mark.uglem@house.mn or call 651-296-5513.

Gun Hearings

The Minnesota House Public Safety Committee spent most of this week debating a series of bills that address gun use in our state. I have received hundreds, perhaps thousands, of emails on the issue from constituents concerned about the impact these pieces of legislation would have on their Second Amendment rights. The bills were not passed in committee, and were laid over for possible inclusion in an omnibus gun bill, which will be made up of several different pieces of gun legislation. I will keep you informed as these bills move through the process, and reaffirm again to you my intention to work to protect your Second Amendment rights.

Have a great week,

Mark Uglem
State Representative, District 36A
