News from Representative Uglem 02-04-2013

Monday, February 4, 2013

Dear Friends,

Last week, I met with constituents Scott Stycer and his daughter Hannah as a part of Legislative Training Day sponsored by the Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators. It was great to hear about the challenges and unique issues facing home school organizations, and look forward to future discussions about choice in education and how the state can empower parents who choose to home school their children.

Gun Hearings

This week, the Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee are scheduled to take up several pieces of gun-related legislation. I want to reaffirm to you my commitment to protecting your Second Amendment rights, and plan to vote against efforts that unfairly restrict law-abiding gun owners, and would have no impact on preventing gun violence or enhancing public safety.

If you are interested in attending the public committee hearing, it will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, February 5th. Interested Second Amendment supporters are meeting in 400S of the State Office Building from 8:30-9:30 and then will go down to Room 10 for the committee hearing.

State of the State

On Wednesday, Governor Dayton will appear before a joint legislative session to give his 2013 State of the State address. I look forward to joining our colleagues in the Minnesota Senate to hear the Governor's address, and hope he will deliver a message focused on working together and finding common-sense solutions that will grow Minnesota's economy and move our state forward.

Stay warm, and have a great week.

Mark Uglem
State Representative, District 36A
