Legislative Update from Rep. Andrea Kieffer

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Hello Neighbors-

The 2013 legislative session convened this week, and I am honored to represent the people of District 53B in Woodbury.

My committee assignments are along the left side of this page. I will continue my work on the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council and have been appointed to the Workforce Development Council as well.

Survey Questions

As I prepare another survey for you to fill out this session, I would like to know if you have a question you feel should be asked in our district. Please email me using the address below with a suggestion. Thanks!

Changes to Constitutional Amendments

I have authored a bill this session (HF 14) which would require a higher threshold of votes by the legislature in order to place future issues on the ballot. I believe it is important that these issues gain bipartisan support before they are passed on to voters, particularly financial issues. I am currently working with Rep. Kim Norton (DFL) to move this legislation. You can read more about this issue on the Woodbury Patch site: more here. Ironically, passage of this change would require a majority vote by citizens in November, 2014.

Upcoming Listening Session

I will hold my first listening session of 2013 at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the R.H. Stafford Branch Library in Woodbury.

As I have done in the past, I will continue to share information with you that I receive from our community:

FROM ISD 833: Input Sought from School District 833

District 833 is inviting parents and residents to attend upcoming conversations regarding the alignment of services to the budget. These conversations will outline services and how the district can better align financial resources. Following a presentation, there will be opportunities for community and staff input on the proposals

All community sessions are being held from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15 (Oltman Middle); Tuesday, Jan. 22 (Woodbury Middle); Wednesday, Jan. 23 (Cottage Grove Middle); and Monday, Jan. 27 (Lake Middle) in each school’s Media Center.

It is a pleasure to serve you at the State House, as always...
