DEAN ISSUES STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR DAYTON’S BUDGET PROPOSAL

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

SAINT PAUL, MN – Representative Matt Dean (R-Dellwood) issued the following statement regarding today’s budget proposal by Governor Mark Dayton:

“Governor Dayton’s proposed tax increases hit middle-income Minnesotans hardest. He pays for his irresponsible spending spree with new taxes on everyday items like clothing, oil changes, haircuts, and cigarettes. The Governor’s budget reflects his commitment to the special interest groups whom he continues to support, rather than the bold leadership we need to get Minnesota’s economy moving.

“Governor Dayton’s partisan attacks against Governor Pawlenty and the Republicans in the legislature, even after his party has taken control of all branches of government in this state signals a disconnect with the vast majority of Minnesotans who have asked leaders to move beyond the partisanship of the last election.

“In fact, the Democrats who now control the legislature and the Governor’s office can now raise as much in tax increases and spend as much as they desire without a single Republican vote. Rather than blame republicans, Governor Dayton and the Democrats should scrap the out of control spending and partisanship. More than ever, we need government to spend less money and spend the money that is available in a smarter, more effective way. Republicans stand ready to help move Minnesota forward.”
