It's official: Litchfield secures wastewater grant

Thursday, September 13, 2012

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Dean Urdahl announces Litchfield has officially secured a $2.5 million grant for a wastewater project which will help First District Association expand its production.

The grant is part of a $47.5 million pot of capital investment funds aimed at economic development. Minnesota’s Dept. of Employment and Economic Development conducted a competitive-grant process to appropriate the funding and rated Litchfield’s proposal tops among the 90 statewide submissions. Gov. Mark Dayton approved DEED’s recommendations today.

The Litchfield project will include construction of a new wastewater transportation pipeline and two lift stations, allowing the city's treatment facility to handle a greater load from First District. Urdahl said this could help the dairy facility increase its production from approximately five million pounds of milk per day to seven million pounds per day.

"Those numbers will translate directly to job creation and business expansion in Meeker County and beyond," said Urdahl, R-Acton Township. "It will provide a boost to our local economy at a time we need it most."
