House Republicans Finalize Leadership Team
St. Paul - House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt (Crown) announced today
the appointment of Rep. Paul Torkelson (Hanska) as an Assistant
Minority Leader. Rep. Torkelson was first elected in 2008 and was
just re-elected to his third term.
“Rep. Torkelson is widely respected in our caucus and is a great final
addition to our leadership team. With his background in agriculture
and rural economy issues, he brings valuable insight to the table
especially when we are talking about job creation in Greater
Minnesota. I'm proud to have him join our leadership team,” said Rep.
Daudt.
During the last biennium, Rep. Torkelson served as the Vice Chair of
the House Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Policy and Finance
Committee. Rep. Torkelson is a farmer, and he and his wife Cindy have
two children.
“I’m honored to be asked to serve as Assistant Minority Leader for our
caucus and happy about the opportunity to return to the leadership
team. I share Rep. Daudt’s goal of making Minnesota more attractive
for job creators so we can grow our economy and get people back to
work. I look forward to working with him and with the rest of the
leadership team in the upcoming session,” said Rep. Torkelson.
Rep. Torkelson joins five Assistant Minority Leaders who were elected
on December 12, 2012 including Rep. Steve Drazkowski (Mazeppa), Rep.
Tara Mack (Apple Valley), Rep. Joe Schomacker (Luverne), Rep. Peggy
Scott (Andover), and Rep. Kelby Woodard (Belle Plaine). In addition,
Rep. Jen Loon (Eden Prairie) was selected as Deputy Minority Leader
and Rep. Tim Sanders (Blaine) will serve as Minority Caucus Whip. Rep.
Torkelson's appointment finalizes the House Republican Leadership
team.
