Hello Friends and Neighbors,
Let me begin by thanking all who participated in the annual “March for Life” in St. Paul on January 22 and were able to stay for refreshments after - about 150 in total. Thank you again for standing up and marching for pro-life issues.
This week I introduced a proposal (House File 2018) that would reform the state income tax structure to include a “flat-tax” option. This option would allow you to choose to pay a simple 5.96% flat income tax rate without itemized deductions, exemptions and subtractions, making for a simpler taxation process. The bill also repeals the Alternative Minimum Tax.
I am also the House author of Senator David Brown’s income tax reform bill (Senate File 1545) that modifies the income tax rate schedules for individuals, estates, and trusts provisions, creating a more fair and balanced income tax bracket system.
For those residents in Baldwin Township and our Princeton/Zimmerman area, this week I wrote a letter of recommendation for a Conservation Partners Legacy Grant for Baldwin Township. This grant money would come from the Outdoor Heritage Fund and go toward restoring Young Park on the corner of CR 38 and CR 19. The land for this 80 acre nature park was generously donated by Kermit Young whose wish was that future generations would enjoy the wetlands and woodlands just as he did. It was an honor to be able to recommend this project.
Finally, precinct caucuses will take place across Minnesota on Tuesday, Feb. 7 and I urge you to attend and have an impact at the ground level.
These meetings are where citizens can help shape policies on a variety of levels. You also can be active in electing local leaders or even run for various positions yourself. The Secretary of State’s website has a Caucus Finder where you can find your meeting locations. I hope you are able to attend and bring friends and family.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or want to share your thoughts on the legislative session.
