ST. PAUL – State Representative Carlos Mariani will join St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman along with other state lawmakers and community leaders to kick-off the City of St. Paul’s 2010 Census on Tuesday, January 26th, 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Cub Foods – Midway, 1440 University Avenue, West St. Paul.
"The census is like a snapshot that helps define who we are as a country and a community," said Rep. Mariani. “The 2010 Census will highlight changes in our community that will provide useful information when making many planning decisions such as where to provide services for the elderly, where to build new schools and roads, or where to locate job training centers. I invite all St. Paul residents to join us in kicking-off St. Paul’s 2010 Census."
The purpose of this event is to ensure that all residents of St. Paul understand the importance of being counted in the 2010 Census. Census data are used to define legislature districts, school district assignment areas and other important areas of government. The Census Bureau will mail or deliver questionnaires to your home in March 2010. Your participation in the census is required, and your responses are protected by law.
”Census data directly affect federal and state funding is allocated to communities for neighborhood improvements, public health, education, and transportation,” said Rep. Marian. “I encourage all St. Paul residents (this includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens and non-citizens) to spend just a few minutes to fill out you’re your census form – this will help ensure your community gets its fair share of federal and state funding. Please keep your eyes open for the Census questionnaire that should arrive in your mailbox in March – your participation matters, to your city and your community.”
