AREA LAWMAKERS INVITE CITIZENS TO ATTEND STATE BUDGET HEARING IN COON RAPIDS

To the Editor:

Two weeks ago, Governor Pawlenty began the state budgeting process, releasing his plan to resolve Minnesota’s record $4.8 billion shortfall. Traditionally, the governor’s plan is the starting point for crafting our state’s budget. We will be working together with the governor to craft a responsible solution to the budget deficit.

Lawmakers are examining Governor Palwenty’s proposal thoroughly to identify areas of agreement and places for improvement and compromise. But we can’t do this work alone - Minnesotans must share in the solution because the decisions made at the State Capitol this year will affect us all.

As your legislators, we value your input. We rely on your advice and take your concerns seriously. For that reason, Minnesota lawmakers are hitting the road to discuss the state’s budget deficit with citizens statewide. We want to understand your priorities so our decisions in St. Paul reflect the values and concerns of all Minnesotans.

A bipartisan committee co-chaired by Rep. Loren Solberg and Sen. Don Betzold will visit Coon Rapids on Thursday, February 26 to discuss the budget with area citizens. Starting at 7:00pm, the meeting will be held at Coon Rapids City Hall at 11155 Robinson Drive. All residents of Coon Rapids, Champlin, Brooklyn Park, Andover, and the surrounding area are encouraged to attend. You can also contact us directly with your comments, questions, and concerns.

Working together, we can resolve this deficit responsibly and put our state back on course for a stronger future. We look forward to hearing from you.
