Dear Neighbor,
Good morning. Now that the election season has passed, I am pleased to resume email updates to help keep people up to speed with what is happening in our district.
I am honored to be heading to St. Paul for a third term in the Minnesota House. Come January, the Minnesota House of Representatives will shift from a GOP majority to a DFL majority. The Minnesota Senate will remain under GOP leadership. It will be important that we all work together for the betterment of Minnesota and not allow partisan differences get in the way of doing the right thing.
Tim Walz will take office as the new governor of Minnesota this January. Also, Pete Stauber will be our new US Congressman in District 8, representing us in Washington, D.C. I look forward to working with both.
On the local level, the Minnesota DNR recently announced the winter walleye regulations. Lake Mille Lacs winter regulations will allow anglers to keep one walleye between 21-23 inches, or one fish over 28 inches. That regulation begins this Dec. 1. On Monday evening, I attended the fall Mille Lacs Lake Fishery Citizens Advisory Committee at McQuoids Resort.
An important topic of discussion is developing a master lake management plan. Many larger lakes have such a plan. Co-management makes this endeavor a bit more complicated, but it makes sense to identify the important community and biological values on which to base long term management decisions.
We have a new scenic byway in our area. We held a community ribbon-cutting ceremony designating the “Mille Lacs Lake Scenic By-Way” this past Thursday at the Y-Club in Garrison.
Thanks to the great work and leadership of Steve Dubbs local citizen’s group leader and the strong support of our local communities, MNDOT has designated the highways that circle the lake as a formal Minnesota Scenic Byway. That will bring new folks into our area to enjoy the big lake and the many recreational opportunities we have.
