Two Otter Tail road projects selected to receive state funding

Wednesday, November 7, 2018

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Bud Nornes, R-Fergus Falls, announces two road projects in Otter Tail County will receive funding from the state’s Local Road Improvement Program.

Otter Tail County itself will receive $1 million in LRIP county funding to reconstruct County Road 34, upgrading the road to 10-ton and Municipal Street Aid standards, adding turn lanes and reconstructing the grade, base and surface. Also, Perham is receiving $750,000 in LRIP small cities funding for work on 7th Ave. NE. Reconstruction of that road will include full depth widening and access management.

“The Legislature has prioritized local roads and bridges this biennium and it is good to see these local projects are receiving funding,” Nornes said. “These are the kinds of projects we have in mind when funding the LRIP, allowing important projects to be completed that otherwise may be too costly for our local governments to conduct or come at an exorbitant cost to their taxpayers.”

In the 2017-18 biennium, the Legislature appropriated nearly $194.5 million for the LRIP to assist local agencies in conducting local-road projects. The MnDOT State Aid Office administers the LRIP solicitation with assistance from the Local Road Improvement Program Advisory Committee. Eligibility requirements for projects selected are applicable to the Routes of Regional Significance Account, the Rural Road Safety Account, or the Trunk Highway Corridor Account.
